Hulu, Flash, and Ubuntu for the [Not As] Fail [Updated]

Watching Hulu from Ubuntu Linux has always been a bit difficult for me. Adobe Flash's full screen performance approaches that of a turtle (though it works well enough for the kids on Playhouse Disney in full screen) and Hulu's video player tends to freeze up if I mouse over it at just the wrong moment (of which there are a lot).

Hulu's latest interface update upped the ante even further. Now any show I try to watch randomly freezes without any mouse interaction. And just to put the cherry on top, refreshing the page doesn't restart the video where I left off like it did with their older player.

In a world further dominated by non-desktop operating systems, I'm hopeful Hulu will be able to make a more cross-platform viewer.

Update June 25, 2010: I gave Hulu another try within Ubuntu again tonight and while there's flickering in the controls section, the show itself was playing flawlessly in the default config (just clicking an episodes link). I was still unable to respond to validity of many commercials, but that wasn't too big a loss. Maybe they don't ask relevancy on all the ads.
