I've had a M****ola Razr V3m for a few years now (and am no fan of 2 year contracts). From the day I got it, I looked forward to doing something like having my kids greet me when one of them was calling. Veri***'s Razr software nixed those hopes in a hurry. For these last years I've steadfastly refused to pay V***zon for the "privilege" of using a ringtone not included with their phone. I tried finding all the usual tools mentioned in the discussion forums about hacking your phone, but Mot***la has apparently been really successful in making the Motor*** Phone Tools (MPT) vanish. Congratulations, M*******, you've managed to convince me that my next phone will be something else. If nothing else, you enabled Ve***on in their crippling of your otherwise fairly well made Razr phones.
Earlier today I was finally able to add my own ringtone from Ubuntu 10.04 using moto4lin and Audacity following the advice I found Veinhammer's Razr - Ubuntu - ringtone - file transfer post and on the Moto4Lin's Wiki entry on V3m. Veinhammer's post has been around since 2006, but I mistakenly overlooked Linux as a possible tool for fixing what I think ***izon messed up on the Razr V3m.
Why are the company names all messed up above? Because they likely have someone trolling for people bad mouthing them and have a large army of lawyers at their disposal. Most people finding this probably just want their V3m to do more than it could out of the box. I'm not going to make it easier for the carrier or their enabling manufacturer to deny you this knowledge. To my fellow remaining V3m owners (the ones who haven't given up in disgust and gotten suckered into another 2 year lock-in), I hope you find those pages as useful as I did.
